We believe in The Zuni Youth Project
Dear Partner,
Empowering youth by connecting them to the strengths within their community is a value that The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is proud to stand by. On the Zuni reservation in New Mexico, Zuni Youth Enrichment Project is doing just that. The Native-led 501(c)(3) promotes the resilience of Zuni youth so they grow into strong, healthy adults who are connected to Zuni traditions. ZYEP offers year-round activities in and out of school that focus on art, physical activity, food sovereignty, built environment, connection to land, youth development, and community wellness, all free of charge.
One program we want to highlight is their Delapna:we (traditional oral stories) Project. In this activity, ZYEP partners with local organizations and community members to highlight the cultural art of storytelling and bring those stories to life through performing arts. The project creates a space where youth can connect to positive role models, learn about their culture, practice their Zuni language, and most importantly, have fun. The Delapna:we Project has brought the Zuni community together for the last four storytelling seasons, sparking a conversation around culture and language preservation. This season, they are planning for an even more impactful program.
From now until the end of the year, you can contribute to this effort that empowers Zuni youth to continue practicing the values that have strengthened the Zuni community since time immemorial. To donate, please follow this link:
